2014-2015 Schedule

Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and each session will begin at 9 a.m. and end promptly at noon. Light refreshments will be served.

There is nothing as certain as change. Changes in technology, statutes, horticultural trends, resident issues, insurance requirements, banking and even accounting procedures impact community association board members. This session will be a fast paced update of what board members need to know about recent changes that can impact their effectiveness as members of the board.

Major Projects – It’s What Reserves Are For! THIS CLASS IS EXPIRED.

Every association board is eventually faced with a major project that has been planned for years or is suddenly necessary. The issues that arise are completely different than those of everyday association governance. This session will address the “need to know” issues that impact major projects.

Association board members are sometimes shocked to learn about the litigation that is being undertaken in the state of Florida. Real cases that have caused board members to say, “They got sued for that!” will be reviewed and discussed. This session will improve a board’s chances of avoiding expensive litigation.

Board Member Certification – Here and Now! THIS CLASS IS FULL.

Florida Statutes provide that newly elected board members in condominium associations, and more recently in homeowners’ associations, have two options to be certified for board service. One option is that the newly elected or appointed director may submit a certificate of satisfactory completion of the education curriculum administered by a division-approved education provider. This session fulfills that requirement and certificates of completion will be provided.

The Essentials of Being a Knowledgeable Board Member; "Do's and Don't's"

Back by popular demand! Participate in this unique opportunity to learn the key facts and to discuss issues specific to your association in eight, ten-minute Round Table discussions. Each Round Table session will be led by a professional from the fields of technology, engineering, accounting, law, banking, insurance, property management and landscaping.
